Crime has increased in our community

Information from Captain Mike Lamb of the Asheville Police Department:

Is there currently an officer representative for this community?  Due to our current staffing crisis (76 Resignations since 6/1/20), the Community Unit is working as a team to address complaints. Send an email to apdcommunityengagement@ashevillenc.gov or call  828-271-6145. The Community Unit is operating with 1/3 of it’s staffing.

Will you please send a copy of the lastest Montford crime report and has the amount of crime increased in the last 3 years, what does the statistics show? Here are two links to help with your research: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/8e0d1f10964242b59f63a4782ae79ec8 – simply select Montford for the neighborhood then select the year you want and the crime type. Here is a 10 year snapshot of crime –  https://crime-data-explorer.fr.cloud.gov/explorer/agency/NC0110100/crime. There were 13 crimes reported in February of 2021 and 39 crimes reported for the month of March.

The Crime Trends Dashboard for Montford, https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/8e0d1f10964242b59f63a4782ae79ec8, shows that in the last 28 days, there has been an 84% increase in the category of all types of crime, (24 crimes from 13 crimes as of March 24, 2021).

Our neighbors should immediately have the information to know that there are significant numbers of crime in Monford and that there are less community resources from the police department.

Thank you for your service and action to inform our community.

In kindness,
Anita Funston

Thank you Anita for this email and the great links.
Looks like most are Larceny/Theft Offenses. That goes along with what folks are saying.
