This year the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority launched the Festivals and Cultural Events grant program of which the Montford Festival was one of the inaugural recipients.
The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA) is funded through the Buncombe County room tax. The BCTDA, through its staff at the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), works with tourism partners to increase the number of nightly tourist stays in Buncombe County, thus increasing the economic impact of visitors to the area. The BCTDA and the staff of the CVB work to promote the area as an attractive tourism destination to visitors, meeting and convention planners, tour operators, and incentive groups. They work to carry out the BCTDA’s mission: “To be a leader in the economic development of Buncombe County by attracting and servicing visitors, and generating income, jobs and tax revenues which make the community a better place to live and visit.” They maintain the website ExploreAsheville.com. The Montford Music and Art Festival was proud to be among the first recipients of this grant. The money was used to fund the beautiful festival banners that adorned the light poles around the neighborhood. The banners were the brain children of Sue Russell and Rita Yerby. Thank you, Sue and Rita.
