It’s Time to Take a Stand on I-26

by Lael Gray

A 40 foot high retaining wall will be ours if Alternate 4B cuts into Westover Drive

With three alternate routes on the table, it’s time for frank discussion and hard decisions.

The Montford I-26 Working Group met on May 30 to look at updated maps that were recently provided by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). These maps show the final versions of the three alternates (Alternate 3, Alternate 4, and Alternate 4B) that are still under consideration for the I-26 connector. The maps include NCDOT’s recent alterations to all three plans.

It’s important to note that all three alternates will affect the Montford neighborhood. After looking at the maps and discussing the impacts of each alternate, the Montford Working Group continues to have serious concerns about Alternate 4B in particular.

We will present the new maps along with our concerns and recommendations for the neighborhood’s response at the MNA meeting on June 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Montford Community Center on Pearson Drive. Please plan to be there to help decide what course Montford should take as we continue to advocate for the protection of our neighborhood.
