Many thanks to all the wonderful neighbors and friends who helped make the Montford Music and Arts Festival a great success again this year. Even the weather was on our side on a beautiful Saturday, May 22.
Ben Scales did a terrific job of choosing and emceeing the music. The lineup was fabulous—such a variety of music and dance. Brian Kintner and his crew have amplified the stage for six years now, which is a big help toward making the music more enjoyable. To bring back memories of the big day, take a look at the photos we’ve included throughout the website and read Ben’s retrospective here.
The rest of the Festival Planning Committee worked tirelessly. The members include Ron Phillips, Ross Terry, David Patterson, Wanda Hawthorne, Wanda Newman, Joe Newman, Laura Lowe, David Baker, Jerry Conner, Mitch Russell, and Sharon Fahrer.
We hope everyone enjoyed the expanded variety of food vendors this year. The fare was just too tempting to resist.
Special thanks to Community Resource Officer Katie Beane, our liaison from the Asheville Police Department, who kept the festival in order. Thanks also to neighbor Harry Anderson for adding to the entertainment.
The Juried Art Contest, judged by Sarah Meyer from the Arts Council, was excellent and competitive this year. Congratulations to the winners pictured below from left to right: third place, painter Jeremy Russell of Jeremy Russell Art; second place, Maggie Joynt of Maggie J Jewelry; and first place, Joey Sheehan of Melting Mountain Pottery.
For more information on the winners and the many other talented exhibitors, visit the festival website at www.montford.org/festival.
Of course the whole festival would not have been possible without our generous sponsors. Mitch Russell recognizes and thanks them here.
Ron Phillips expresses our appreciation to the many neighborhood volunteers who were essential to the festival’s success here.
We’re also grateful to all the Montford residents who moved their cars and put up with the increased demand for parking. Speaking of which, thanks to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for the use of their lot.
Plan to be with us next year for the Eighth Annual Montford Music and Arts Festival!
