The first Montford ARTWALK was a grand success according to artists who manned and womanned their stations noon-5pm Saturday, October 29 on a beautiful Autumn day that begged us to get out and enjoy. The number of walkers and enthusiasts ranged from 40 to 200 in steady traffic per studio and many artists reported multiple sales from the free event.
Mary McDermott of the Urban Art Retreat and Studio of Asheville, the leading inspiration and organizer for the walk, had this comment: “The first annual Montford ARTWALK was a success! It was lots of fun and I can’t wait until next year. I am very grateful to everyone who came out to view the art and exhibit. It is one more way Montford comes together as a community.”
Studios were located in attics, garages, carriage houses, cottages, and basements, from Cumberland to Montford Ave. and back into Montford Hills. The artists who participated were Yang Yu, Joyce Thornburg, John Morris, Mary McDermott, Kevin Hogan, Linnea Heide, Toni Graves, Margaret Goodson, Kathy Goodson, Nat Dickinson, Tabitha Burnett, Dan Blake, Alexandra Baker, Heather Baird, and Jacque Allen. Montford ARTWALK 2017 has plans in the making for better maps, a brochure, and increased publicity. We are grateful to the Chamber for distributing information for us and look forward to next year and another successful ARTWALK!
